254 SMO Plate
254 smo steel plate is a very high austenitic stainless steel grade. It has combination features of pitting and crevice corrosion with strength which is twice that of the 300 stainless steel series. It is known for possessing excellent workability as well.
smo 254 plates for certain applications it has been reported to be a cost-effective substitute for high nickel and titanium alloys. It is quite tough to machine due to lack of sulfur content and extremely high work hardening rate; however by using overpowered machine tools, sharp tools, good amount of lubrication, positive feeds, and slow speeds help to offer good machining results.
UNS S31254 Plate needs filler material without which it results in poor strength properties. Annealing should be performed at 1149-1204°C and it should be followed by a water quench.
Other operations related to 1.4547 Plate such as forging, upsetting can be performed at 982 - 1149°C. It is recommended that temperatures should not exceed this range as it would result in reduction and scaling in the workability of the materialPost-process annealing is recommended in order to retain maximum corrosion resistant properties
Cold working process of 6mo Plate can be carried out by using all the traditional methods, however due to its high work hardening rate the process would be tough. As a result it will provide increased strength and toughness to it. It does not respond to heat treatment and only through cold reduction hardening is possible.
ASTM A240 Uns S31254 Sheet is used for applications such as food processing equipment, desalination, saltwater handling, chemical processing equipment, bleaching equipment for paper and pulp industry, etc.
